Isomorphic Labs, a leading platform in AI drug discovery, has secured $600 million in funding from Thrive Capital. This round of financing is led by Thrive and includes participation from GV and existing investors Alphabet (Google's parent company). The funds will accelerate the development of Isomorphic's AI drug design engine and support its goal to bring its researched drugs to clinical trials.
Founded in 2021, Isomorphic Labs leverages DeepMind's expertise in AI drug discovery, particularly through AlphaFold, an AI model that predicts protein three-dimensional structures. Last year, Isomorphic Labs established strategic partnerships with pharmaceutical giants Eli Lilly and Novartis, potentially securing milestone payments of up to $3 billion for the use of their AI models.
Demis Hassabis, the founder of Isomorphic Labs, expressed in a New York Times interview that while the company does not need the additional funding immediately, it will help attract top research scientists. Notably, Hassabis and DeepMind researcher John Jumper have been awarded the 2024 Nobel Prize in Chemistry for their contributions to AlphaFold.
